Mrs. Wanda Haygood Worley of Lavonia, GA, devoted mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully July 27, 2007 at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Lithonia, GA to R.J. Haygood, Jr. and Evelyn Black Haygood, moved to Lavonia 20 years ago and was a member of Providence United Methodist Church. Wanda hit the community theater stage several years ago and acted in several plays, in addition to working behind the scenes. Perhaps her favorite and most memorable role was that of Ouiser Boudreaux in Steel Magnolias. She was a star! Wanda loved her Little Yellow Cottage in the Woods, her toy teacup poodle Lily Weezer, and she adored her grandchildren, who came to see their Nana several times a day. She and her grandson, Stuart, spent many an hour discussing world affairs.
Wanda is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Kevin Senior of Lavonia, her son, Scott Worley of Royston, grandson and "Partner" Stuart Senior and granddaughter Shelly Senior of Lavonia, two sisters, Sandra Holland of Buckhead and Hilda Swords of Conyers, several nieces and nephews and many, many friends. She will be greatly missed for her wit, laughter, jokes, and dry humor.
Services for Wanda will be held Sunday, July 29th at 2 p.m. in the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn Dire officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Burial will be at Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Brown officiating. The family has requested that memorials be made to the church in lieu of flowers.
Pallbearers will be Clarence Holland, Milton Swords, Jay Holland, and Tom Hollinshead. Wanda wanted her three closest friends, Polly Buffington, Laura Moore, and Leigh Veteto to act as honorary pallbearers and walk ahead of her casket.
