Wayne C. Melton, age 86, of Conyers, peacefully passed away at his home in the early morning hours of Saturday, October 19, 2024. Born on January 18, 1938, in the Ruhama Community of Pickens County, SC, he was the son of the late Rev. Roy and Edna Smith Melton.

Wayne was a proud alumnus of Coosa High School, graduating with the Class of 1956, and attended Shorter University. Following his high school years, he served honorably in the United States Army, with a significant part of his service spent in Germany.

After his military service, Wayne transitioned to a career in the private sector with RCA, contributing to significant satellite communication projects with the Department of Defense in Brazil and the south Atlantic and Caribbean Islands. His professional journey culminated with a distinguished, long career at IBM, where he dedicated more than thirty-five years before retiring.

Wayne had a lifelong love of music and animals. In retirement, he found solace and immense joy in the companionship of several beloved canine companions, especially Theo, and relished an eclectic array of music that filled his days with harmony. He also heavily relied upon his faith. Wayne was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Covington, where in previous years he enjoyed serving as a deacon and Sunday School Teacher.

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Martha Allison Melton, alongside his parents. Wayne is lovingly remembered by his son, Roy W. Melton, and his wife Julie; his daughter, Allison E. A. Melton; his siblings, Anne Kight, Loyd Melton, and Allen Melton, along with his wife Doris; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service to honor Wayne's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the funeral home chapel. Following the service, interment will take place at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until the start of the service.
