Wayne Eugene "Yogi" Whiting, age 67, of Lavonia, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.

Born on March 12, 1957, in Franklin County, Wayne was the son of the late Clarence Franklin Whiting and Sarah Herring Whiting Jernigan. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Richard Jernigan, and his brother, Raymond Whiting. Wayne dedicated many years of his life to Tenneco Automotive, where he worked as a grinder operator before retiring. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Vivian Maxwell Whiting, and his children: Jason Whiting (Denise Standridge) of Lavonia, GA; Natasha Whiting of Lavonia, GA; and Sara Whiting-King (Shaun King) of Lavonia, GA. He also leaves behind his cherished bonus daughters: Emerald Weldon of Royston, GA, and Kaela Burns of Carnesville, GA. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: JP Whiting (Erica Whiting), Gracie Noonan (Christian Fortson), Jade Whiting, Bella Noonan, Sam Johnson, Donovan Whiting, Jasmyn Ventura, Jasper Ventura, and Jessica Lowery, and great-grandchildren: Alton Whelchel and Anastasia Whiting, as well as his sister, Kathy Whiting Ansley (Bryan Ansley) of Toccoa, GA.

A funeral service to honor Wayne's life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024, at the Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Lavonia, with Rev. Bruce Moore officiating. Following the service, cremation will take place. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society (cancer.org).
