Mr. William Clayton King, age 81, of Lavonia, died Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Cobb Memorial Hospital.
Born April 3, 1929, in Oconee County, SC, he was the son of the late Memphis Tennessee King and Sylvia Nix King. He retired as an auto Mechanic with King's Auto Alignment. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Lavonia. Mr. King was a veteran of The US Army, having served during the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife: Janie Ruth (Eskew) King; brothers: Walter L. King, James King, Junior King, and Almer King; and sisters: Inez Chastain and Sally Mae Pearson.
He is survived by his wife: Esther (Saylors) King; daughter: Diane Henson of Lavonia; step-children: Joey Hyde of Lavonia, James Hyde of Canon, Miranda Fleming of Royston, and Melinda Capes of Lavonia; brothers: Woodrow King of Royston and Jimmy King of Winterville; sisters: Hazel Fleming of Anderson, SC, Sarah Bruce of Canon, Joann Spence of Winterville, Becky Blackwell of Athens, and Nerea Barrett of Nicholson; grandchildren: Cory Henson, Clayton Henson, and Jim Bo Henson; and great-grandchildren: Carlie Henson and Carter Henson.
The body is at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour. At other hours the family will be at their respective homes. Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 20, 2010 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Pastor Kenneth Jones and Mr. Fred Greenway officiating. Burial will follow, with military honors, in the Lavonia City Cemetery.
