Obituary

William David "Bill" Fortner, Jr., age 67, of Alto, passed away Monday, April 7, 2025, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.

Born July 31, 1957, in Gainesville, he was the son of the late William David Fortner, Sr. and Eleanor Martin Fortner. He worked for North Georgia Foods and was in management at Burger King in Cornelia. Bill began his working career at an early age, going to work at New Holland Mill when he disguised his age to get the job, Bill even worked at the Atlanta Airport for a time working for Eastern Airlines. His passion was the food industry, and he spent his career serving others. Bill was a trusted friend and member of New Vision Worship Center.

He is survived by his wife: Sherry McConnell Fortner of the home; daughters: Andrea McConnell and Heather McConnell of Alto; son: Alex (Leighanne) Campbell; grandchildren: Kacey, Jaxson and Walker; sister: Connie (Jimmy) Williams of Gainesville; brother: Tony (Rejonah) Fortner of Flowery Branch. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Wesley Raymond Fortner; and his first wife: Theresa L. Fortner.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the New Vision Worship Center in Baldwin. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening at the church from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
