Obituary

Mr. William Ramsey Jarrett, Sr., 94, of Yacht Club Road, Hartwell, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2016 at his home.

Born on April 13, 1922 in Toccoa GA, he was the son of the late Devereaux "Bud" Jarrett and Margaret Friar Jarrett.Mr. Jarrett retired from Georgia Power Co. after 42 years of service where he was an Ambassador Member and 2nd vice president.He was a faithful member of the Reed Creek Baptist Church where he served as former deacon, treasurer, clerk, music director, choir member, Sunday School director, Sunday School teacher, Golden Agers member and served on various committees.Mr. Jarrett was a US Army veteran serving in World War II European Theater.Bill served in France and Belgium during World War II.He was serving in Belgium when General George Patton died and he had the privilege of serving in the honor guard at General Patton's funeral.He also was a member of the American Legion Post 109 and the Gideons International Hart County Camp.After his retirement, his main hobby was farming, he was a great gardener, and loved entertaining shut-ins with his jokes and singing.

Survivors include his wife: Marlene Bailey Heaton Jarrett; his children: Linda Johnson and Gary of Lexington, NC, Bill Jarrett, Jr. and Colleen of Toccoa, Jolene Bugbee and Bob of Hartwell; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild also survive.Mr. Jarrett was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: James and Walter Jarrett and two sisters: Peggy Jones and Martha Newsome. Mr. Jarrett was the last member of his immediate family.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 9, 2016, 3:00 pm in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Sam Dulaney and Brother Mitch Slayton officiating.Entombment will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service.The family is at the home. Memorials may be made to the Reed Creek Baptist Church, 116 Boleman Hill Road, Hartwell GA 30643 or Gideons International, Hart County Camp, P.O. Box 59, Hartwell, GA 30643.
