Mr. Willie Joe "Clem" Sayer,age 72, of 3191 Providence Church Rd, Lavonia, Ga., died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at Hart Co. Hospital.

Born March 14, 1938 in Bowersville, Ga., he was the son of the late Pleas John Sayer and Juvernia Harris. He was the owner and operator of Clem's Shoal Creek Country Music Park and founder of Clem's Alternators and Starters. Mr. Sayer was a member of the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame and was a regular musician at the Bluegrass Express in Hartwell. He was a member of Providence United Methodist Church, guitarist at the church and a member of the choir.

He is survived by wife, Janice Brown Sayer of the home; six sons, Marshall Sayer and his wife, Sheila of Bowersville GA, Joey Sayer of Yatesville GA, Greg Franks of Bowersville GA, Todd Franks and his wife, Ruba of Brunswick GA, Stan Sayer and his wife, Roma of Hartwell GA and Zeke Sayer and his wife Whitleigh of Lavonia GA; a daughter, Lisa McCarty of Hartwell GA; a half brother, Stewart Sayer of Mt. Airy GA and two half sisters, Beth Skelton and her husband Van of Bowersville GA and Susie Brown and her husband Tom of Elberton. Nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Sayer was preceded in death by his first wife, Sara Ann Rowland Sayer.

Services celebrating the life of Clem Sayer will be Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. Rev. Doug Brown, Rev. Mike Fugate and Rev. Lee Smith will officiate. Burial will be in the Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The body is at the Strickland Funeral home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m... The family will be at the home.
