Mr. Winfred Foster, age 95, of Lavonia, died Sunday, May 30, 2010, at The Clary Center.
He was born July 31, 1914, the son of the late Pierce & Elizabeth Watkins Foster. He was a member of the Franklin County Historical Preservation Society and Lavonia's RC&D Committee. Mr. Foster was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he served as one of the first two deacons of the church. He retired as Franklin County's Chief Registrar.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Nannie Sue Gerrard Foster; sister: Minnie Foster Pruitt; and brothers: Joseph Foster, Mitt Foster, Fred Foster, Collie Foster, Dewey Foster, Eugene Foster, & Willie Foster.
He is survived by his son & daughter-in-law: Harry & Wendy Foster of Lavonia, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Smith and Rev. Richard Bielski officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center or to the charity of your choice.
