Mrs. Winona Chitwood Evans, 86, of Winterville, passed away Friday, February 16, 2024 at Avery Village, Winterville GA.

Born on January 30, 1938 in Lavonia GA, she was the daughter of the late Hoyt L. Chitwood and Eloise Duck Chitwood.  Mrs. Evans retired from Clarke County School System and was a member of the Whitehall Baptist Church, Athens.  She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her son: Hoyt Evans (Kristi) of Crawford GA; a sister: Polly Cordell (Tom) of Hartwell; a brother: Thomas Chitwood (Brenda); six grandchildren: Will Evans (Risha), Kathryn Smith (Matt), Dillon Evans (Alaetra), Shelby Evans, Colton Evans and Garrett Evans; three great-grandchildren: Aiden Smith, Abby Smith and Asher Smith also survive. Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Jack E. Evans; a son: Greg Evans; a sister: Peggy Skelton and two brothers: Ronnie Chitwood and Joe Chitwood.

The family will receive friends Monday, February 19, 2024 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell. Other times the family will be at their respective homes.

Funeral services for Mrs. Winona Evans will be Monday, February 19, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with Rev. Gary Ledford officiating.  Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
