Mr. S. Winston Harris, 86, of Royston Highway, Hartwell, passed away Monday, August 29, 2016 at his home.
Born on April 26, 1930 in Hartwell GA, he was the son of the late James Gordon Harris and Annie Skelton Harris.Mr. Harris was employed with Bellcraft Mfg., Dunlop Sports and retired as co-owner of Carol's Flowers and Gifts. He also was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church where he was a former deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir member and served on various committees throughout the church.Mr. Harris was a member of the Nancy Hart Masonic Lodge #690.
Survivors include his wife: Carol Gray Harris; one son: Greg Harris; two daughters: Janna Ertzberger and her husband Bob of Bowersville, Laurie Adams and her husband Steve of Hartwell; five grandchildren: Blake and Sydney Ertzberger, Suzanne Lamb and Thomas, Brandon Adams, Nathan Adams; two great-grandchildren: Bailey and Morgan Lamb; and numerous nieces and nephews.Also his special caregivers: Joy McCurley, Pat Cleveland, Annette Callahan, Charlotte Wallace, Peggy Thomason, Dustee Edwards, Janet Shiflet, Dianne Langston and Jean DeGrave.Mr. Harris was the last surviving member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers: Dennis Harris, Gartrell Harris, Paul Harris, J.G. Harris, Isom Harris, Alfred Harris, Dr. Wayne Harris; six sisters: Winona Weaver, Leah Whitaker, Lula Turner, Ruby McCollum, "Bill" Reynolds and Daltha Bowen.
Funeral services will be Thursday, September 1, 2016, 2:00 pm at the Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Durham and Rev. Luther Thomason officiating.Burial will be in the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening.The family is at the home. Flowers are optional, memorials may be made to the Bethany Baptist Church Kitchen Fund, 2085 Bethany-Bowersville Road, Canon, GA 30520.
