Mr. Woodford Felt "Woody" Hamby, age 64, of Lavonia, died Friday, April 18 at his home.
Born November 18, 1943, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late William Grady and Tilda (Durham) Hamby. He retired from Good's Furniture Store after many years of service as manager. He was a member of the Toccoa Optimist Club, serving on numerous committees, including the July 4th Independence Day Celebration. He was an active citizen of his community, initiating the Soar Anti-drug Group and the Adopt-a-Road Program in Stephens County. He was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church.
He was predeceased by his parents; wife: Kathy Ellen (Williford) Hamby; and sister: Jeanette "Tiny" Carnes.
Survivors include son: Woody G. Hamby of Lavonia; daughters: Wendy Crews of Bowersville and Cindy Serrano of Lavonia; brother: Cecil Hamby of Augusta; sister: Kathryn Hicks Smith of Lavonia; and nine grandchildren: Tony, Daniel, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Philip, Nathan, Lydia, Kathryn, and Martin.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2008 at the Lavonia Chapel of Strickland Funeral Home with Rev. Ben Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens – North.
