Linda Joyce Bruce Thompson, age 71, wife of John William Thompson, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens, Georgia, surrounded by her loving family.
Linda was born on February 28, 1955, in Seneca, South Carolina, and was the daughter of the late Truett and Jonelle McCurley Bruce. Linda attended Anderson College, where she earned an Associate Degree in Music as well as a degree in organ performance. Her love for music began at an early age when she learned to play the organ on her grandmother Bruce's pump organ, a talent that would become a lifelong ministry. She dedicated many years of service as a bookkeeper with Northeast Georgia Bank, where she was known for her strong work ethic and friendly spirit. After retiring from Northeast Georgia Bank, Linda faithfully served as the secretary of Tom's Creek Baptist Church and was the dedicated organist at Westminster First Baptist Church for 40 years. Through her music, she touched countless lives and faithfully glorified God.
Linda is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, John William Thompson; her son, David Allen Thompson; and her brother, Larry Bruce (Sherry) of Lavonia, Georgia.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Westminster First Baptist Church. Linda will be laid to rest at First Baptist Memorial Park.
